The making of these films
Is a long walk
along a path
marked by subjective intimacy
It is a best foot forward archive
of who I have been
and who I desire to be
We all run along the tracks laid
It doesn’t matter who laid them
It would be a long list,
so we call it predisposition
My predisposition is to seek
hand me down fantastical dreamscapes
Because I know I’m in love with
something,
but that something is yet to find me
While I wait,
I’d like to declare
my confused and ambiguous fondness
for love
But if I had to write a funeral card for love
It would be a musical card that said…

Missy,
It has taken me a while to respond. Sorry for that. I have been travelling again. My wanderlust is never sated. This last time I took only my phone (for photograph purposes mainly) which is too blunt a tool to carve out a response to your recent essay.
The mood of the piece is in my mind 'reflective'. Like you are sat there with an answer but nobody is asking the question required. This film addresses that. You use a self interview to answer all the burning answers by inventing your own questions. A genius and very creative solution.
I think most of your films start with a clue as to the direction of travel. In this case you start with the words 'now act like it's not a giant cultural cry for help'. Ah....I think....this is a wade into darker waters.
There it is. The beautiful quick cut start followed by Lil Yachty bouncing onto the stage like a boss (we find out later that admire this entrance so much you wish it were you up there bouncing on one foot as if you owned the planet).
The film then discusses 'doublespeak'; a deliberate obscuring of meaning. I actually think you are the queen of this. That your films are littered with it, and to prove a point you go on to use it to great effect;
I choose this. It chooses me. I choose it back\ I know you're watching me\ and I know what you're thinking\ how do you know what I'm thinking?\ I can read your mind\ you can read my mind?\ yes I have a message for you
