Art has to be beautiful, but before that, art has to be truthful. And every artist has to learn truth though a painful private process.

I don't want to be all mouth and no trousers on this, so for the first time I have included notes for those who want more detail. None of the following are my words. It is information extracted from research.

I only ask you draw your own conclusions

The originator of lobotomies, António Egas Moniz, won the Nobel Prize for Physiology/Medicine in 1949

This helped convince the psychiatric profession of the potency of their craft

These often violent and invasive psychiatric interventions prayed on the relative lack of social power of the insane to resist the increasingly radical and even reckless interventions of asylum doctors

In 1948 Norbert Wiener said, a lobotomy makes the custodial care of many patients easier. Let me remark in passing that killing them makes their custodial care still easier

In 1977, a US Congress committee investigated allegations that lobotomies were used to control minorities and restrain individual rights

Tennessee Williams criticised lobotomies in his play Suddenly, Last Summer because it was sometimes inflicted on homosexuals—to render them 'morally sane'

Lobotomies underwent a gradual but definite decline following the introduction of behaviour modification drugs for psychiatric use in the mid-1950s

At the same time they started being used by the psychiatric profession, the CIA started testing these drugs in a covert behaviour modification program

What made you weird when you were young, makes you great when you grow up. Victoire

But what happens to society if we don't allow children to be weird?
